Joey King is taking on an exciting new role.

The 21-year-old The Kissing Booth actress will star in Netflix‘s Uglies, helmed by director McG as an adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s popular dystopian fantasy novel, Deadline reported Tuesday (September 29).

Joey will also serve as executive producer.

Uglies “is set in a world in which a compulsory operation at sixteen wipes out physical differences and makes everyone pretty by conforming to an ideal standard of beauty.”

“Sources say King has long been a fan of the series and was aggressive in pursuing the lead role once Netflix acquired the rights to the novel,” Deadline reports of Joey‘s participation.

Joey definitely has a busy schedule lined up: next week, Joey‘s new Blumhouse horror film The Lie will premiere on Prime Video. Check out the trailer here!
