Lee Carter (played by Danny Hatchard) left EastEnders at the end of last year after Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) was hospitalised as her alcoholism took an even darker turn. Fans have now called for Lee to return. But, as Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda try and settle into a brand new way of living, Linda’s sobriety could be compromised.
Earlier this year, Mick made the decision that in order to save Linda from damaging her health from her drinking, they would have to leave the Queen Vic.
With Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) and Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) firmly at the helm now, it’s inevitable Mick and Linda are going to be a bit lost.
But, as they try and work out how to live a life so dramatically different, confined to four walls, it’s been suggested Lee could return.
“Personally, I’d like to see the return of Lee, Johnny and Nancy and keep them as one of the main family units in the square,” one viewer recently posted on Reddit.
“I’m sure this way the storyline will work itself out,” he added.
This was quickly followed by another fan who said: “I could have sworn I remember that Maddy Hill left Casualty a few months ago and I don’t watch Our Girl so I don’t know if Danny Hatchard is going back.
“But he’s been bored enough during COVID to start a YouTube vlog so if he’s available I’m sure he’d go back.
“People liked Lee’s brief return during the holidays.”
Lee was furious and concerned when he left EastEnders over Christmas after he spotted hostility between his parents.
With Linda’s drinking getting out of control and Mick suffering terrible panic attacks, Lee was forced to parent them both.
But, if Linda slips back into her old ways now she is trapped in a new home, Lee may be forced to return to Walford to help.
Mick and Linda want to savour their relationship after a rocky year, but will Lee tell them they are flogging a dead horse?

Another fan suggested Mick and Linda should take on either Walford East after Ian bought the Queen Vic, or the Prince Albert.
It would give them something similar to do, but the whole point of moving was to keep Linda away from an environment which included alcohol.
And if Mick and Linda are set to struggle again, maybe this is going to create a perfect storm, putting Linda’s life in danger once more.
Lee returning could also create a good storyline as Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) continues to fight for her freedom.

Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander Smith) has been working hard to keep Whitney out of prison after Leo King (Tom Wells) was killed earlier this year.
But, as Whitney and Lee’s marriage crumbled at the end of last year, they left things on a fairly positive note.
Maybe Lee could provide that last big of support Whitney needs to free herself from her former stalkers shackles.
He could also keep her safe from the likes of the sinister Gray, if she were to go against him for some reason.
EastEnders is set to return to BBC One on September 7.
