Gov. Andrew Cuomo got celebrity treatment at his coronavirus press briefing Monday when a Turkish reporter asked the governor to autograph a copy of his “New York Tough” COVID-19 victory lap poster — and he happily obliged.
By the end of Cuomo’s roughly 50-minute briefing in Manhattan, reporter Nazan Isik of the Turkish Journal asked Cuomo for his John Hancock on the artwork featuring the “coronavirus mountain.”
“You want a signed poster?” Cuomo clarified before responding, “Yes, it would be my honor.”
Cuomo then asked Isik for her first name as he signed the 22-inch-by-28-inch, $11.50 poster with a black Sharpie marker.
“Thank you very much for asking,” the third-term Democratic governor said with a beaming smile from ear to ear.
Cuomo’s bizarre coronavirus poster was unveiled earlier this summer and more than 35,000 orders from 33 different countries have been placed for copies, according to the governor’s office.
The poster shows a large virus test swab stuck up a mini Cuomo’s nose, a bottle of state prison-made hand sanitizer and a throng of health care and other essential workers who hauled themselves up the “coronavirus mountain” with a rope.
