Coronation Street fans were left guessing what had happened to Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) as she disappeared after having an argument with Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew).

Elaine vanished after she was spotted having an argument with Geoff, after he claimed she was a stranger who had coughed in his vicinity (not ideal during the coronavirus pandemic).

Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) and Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) made it their mission to find out what happened to Elaine and reported her missing to the police.

Elaine had arrived in Corrie to help Yasmeen (Shelley King) after admitting she had suffered the same abuse and coercive control at the hands of her former husband until she disappeared and changed her name.

It was then revealed that she was Tim’s (Joe Duttine) real mother, who has been missing for all of his life.

Geoff was understandably not best please to see Elaine – who he had known as Philippa – return to stir up trouble, and was seen disposing of her SIM card after the pair had a blazing row.

With Elaine now seemingly out of the picture, viewers were left wondering what had happened to her at the hands of Geoff.

They tweeted: ‘I wonder how much longer Geoff can keep this up for….Where’s Elaine!?’ and ‘Has Geoff killed Elaine?’

Others added: ‘I hope Elaine isn’t dead but it’s #corrie so she most likely is. I want to see everyone take down the piece of s**t that is Geoff!!’ and ‘So has Geoff killed Elaine then?’

In Wednesdays episode, viewers also saw Sally begging Tim to consider the possibility Elaine is telling the truth about being his mum, meaning Geoff has been lying to him for his whole life.

Faye (Ellie Leach), who saw Geoff arguing with Elaine, also confronts her granddad about the incident, but he lies once again about her being a stranger he was speaking to.

He also maintains to the police that his first wife is dead when they come out to question him – but Elaine’s fate is yet to be revealed.
