David McGoldrick becomes latest Premier League star to reveal vile racist abuse he has been sent on social media as Sheffield United star posts message calling him a ‘f***ing dirty n*****’ and ‘ape’ just a day after Wilfried Zaha was abused

David McGoldrick has become the latest Premier League star to reveal the vile racist abuse he has received on social media.

The Sheffield United star follows in the footsteps of Wilfried Zaha, who on Sunday posted the messages he was sent on Instagram, with a 12-year-old boy later being arrested by police.

McGoldrick wrote ‘2020 and this is life’ alongside the screenshot, which showed the message sent directly to him by a user called ‘mma_notorious_mma’.

The disgusting abuse reads: ‘You f****** dirty n*****. Your n***** life defo doesn’t matter. F*** you ya bold c*** WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU PLAYED MANURE [Manchester United] YOU F****** S*** APE.’

In a statement to Sportsmail on Monday morning, Sheffield United said: ‘As a club we will support David McGoldrick and will do all we can to find the perpetrator of the disgusting message posted on social media. 

‘We will work with the Premier League and all the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.’

The sickening racist message follows McGoldrick’s stunning two-goal performance against Chelsea on Saturday, which helped Sheffield United to a dominant 3-0 win.

McGoldrick’s outing of the racist message on social media comes 24 hours after Crystal Palace star Zaha did the same.

On Sunday morning, Zaha posted a message on social media with the caption ‘woke up to this today’.

Zaha was sent a series of disgusting images and two messages ahead of his game at Villa Park

In two messages Zaha was told ‘you better not score tomorrow you black c***’ before the poster added ‘or I’ll come to your house dressed as a ghost’.

The poster, who later sent an apology to Zaha in a caption of a photo of Aston Villa players taking a knee, also sent a picture of a Ku Klux Klan gathering, to underline the threat, and another displaying an edited version of a box of cornflakes, instead carrying the words ‘c***flakes’ and displaying a man with his face blacked up.

West Midlands Police confirmed a 12-year-old from Solihull has been arrested as part of their investigation.  

The Premier League are looking into the incident as part of their discriminatory abuse system.

In response to the arrest, the PFA said: ‘The posts sent to @wilfriedzaha ahead of today’s game were sickening and abhorrent. Players continue to be the target of relentless abuse online.

‘While we’re satisfied that the offender has been arrested, the fact a 12-year-old would send such material is deeply troubling. Incidents, such as this, only strengthen the case for tighter regulation of social media companies. We call on the authorities to accelerate the process of appointing Ofcom as the regulator to oversee the Online Harms legislation.’
