Last weekend, you might have noticed that J.K. Rowling hopped on Twitter and made some terribly insensitive comments about transgender women…right in the middle of Pride Month, of all times. I won’t get into J.K.’s full rant, but here’s a quick snippet of what she said: “I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.” And despite the massive blowback, J.K. is still going off, which is all very messy.

But now, Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Bonnie Wright are letting their disagreement with J.K.’s statement be known by voicing their support of trans men and women. On Twitter, Emma wrote:

Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.

I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.

I donate to @Mermaids_Gender and @mamacash. If you can, perhaps you’ll feel inclined to do the same. ❤️

Happy #PRIDE2020 Sending love x

Bonnie, on the other hand, wrote:

If Harry Potter was a source of love and belonging for you, that love is infinite and there to take without judgment or question. Transwomen are Women. I see and love you, Bonnie x

Emma and Bonnie’s comments come after Daniel Radcliffe penned an essay for The Trevor Project in direct response J.K.’s Twitter rant, and wrote:

God bless these people for using their platform for the greater good!
