Chris Chittell, 72, who plays Eric Pollard in ITV soap Emmerdale, has shared his haircut with bewildered Facebook followers. The actor’s handiwork was so bad that some of his co-stars and fans mocked him mercilessly for his new tresses.

He first captioned the upload “Ooops!” as he teased a photo of electric hair clippers.

The second snap showed the finished haircut, and followers gasped.

Chris typed next to the snap: “Double oooops!!”

The image showed a large line of his hair shaven away.

He explained: “Double cos it’s on t’other side as well stupidly put the wrong attachment and had not used the mirror!! Duh!!!”

James Hooton, who plays Sim Dingle in Emmerdale, commented: “You’ve lost your sh*t Chitters.”

A mischievous fan wrote: “Missed a bit!”

Another replied: “Why don’t you do the other side to match!”

Prior to shaving his hair, the actor showed himself wearing an auburn wig while on the beach.

He captioned the photo: “Who cares if you can’t get to the hairdressers. I’m letting mine grow and to hell with continuity okay okay methinks the red wine has helped with the nourishment, possibly!!”

Emmerdale has been the first British soap to resume production as the UK’s lockdown has begun to ease.

However, it has introduced new social distancing measures to ensure all the crew and cast remain safe.

Jeff Hordley who portrays series regular Cain on the show, told the Metro: “There are new regulations about working in the studio and we are having to adhere to the two-meter ruling on and around the set. 

“This means that the scenes are almost choreographed like a dance. So you come into a space and the other actor has to be two meters away and then you will be told to move somewhere else so they can move too. 

“It feels like a dance always keeping a two-meter distance,” he added.

The size of the crew has also been cut down which has made the set feel more intimate.

Actors have been forced to do their own hair and makeup which has caused havoc.

TV boss John Whiston recently told Lorraine Kelly: “Most of the cast for some reason decided to shave their heads, and all the female cast decided to dye their hair puce.

“It was a problem with everyone coming back to work. How did his hair get like that?

“We’ve had to put in loads of lines in on how he got his hair like it.”
