Kacey Musgraves teamed up with Flaming Lips for “Flowers of Neptune 6,” singing harmony with the band’s frontman Wayne Coyne.

The Flaming Lips shared the new song and an accompanying video late last month.

The song sees a man introspecting, as he aims to search his past. The visual, directed by Coyne and George Salisbury, shows Coyne, with an American flag draped across his shoulders, strolling across a burning Oklahoma plains in his plastic bubble.

“John’s still a greaser and Tommy’s gone off to war/ James got busted and doesn’t give a fuck any more,” he sings.

Coyne says the song is a combination of “blissful, innocent, psychedelic experiences that Steven and Kacey Musgraves (she sings harmony with me on the track) and myself all discussed.”

Musgraves covered the band’s 2002 song “Do You Realize??” during tour stops last year and also at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

In 2019, Flaming Lips released their 17th studio album, King’s Mouth: Music and Songs. The band released a collaborative LP Deap Lips with Deap Vally this year, and also covered George Jones‘ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” for Clark Duke‘s directorial debut Arkansas.
