Ranvir Singh and Ben Shephard presented the last Good Morning Britain of the week and were joined by Iain early on. The broadcaster often appears on the breakfast programme and the guest was also joined by former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to discuss today’s headlines. Towards the end of the interview, he spoke out about a shake-up on his LBC radio show last night, which later led to a cheeky comment, leaving Ben unimpressed.
Iain opened up about a decision to invite listener, Denise, onto join him after he was left stunned by her call.
Denise had rung up Iain during a debate about diversity in the media and the caller gave the presenter some home truths on the issue.
After Iain had given Denise the opportunity to speak up, he told her: “I would like to see a more diverse presenter line-up on all radio stations.
“We are not alone in this. I would like to see that and I’ve made this point to the people who make these decisions,” he admitted.

Denise told him: “I’m putting myself forward for the job. I’d love to take the job.”
This led to her being invited to join Iain last night after her impassioned speech impressed himself and show bosses so much.
She joined him on his slot yesterday evening and he spoke more about this came about to the GMB hosts this morning.
He explained to Ben and Ranvir: “I’m going to reveal a secret now, just before the end of the show, my boss texted me and said ‘make sure at the end of the show, you say Denise will be back.’
“Because he loved her, I loved her, the listeners loved her, so she’s going to be back,” he promised.
Iain remarked: “That was basically the world’s best job interview, wasn’t it?,” leading Ben to reply: “If only they could all go like that.
“Jacqui, we can’t bear the thought of losing you, so you will definitely be back as well next week with Iain next Friday.”
Jacqui commented: “Me and Denise,” before Ben replied: “Yeah, you and Denise, let’s try that as a partnership.”

Ben was not impressed with his comment, exclaiming: “Iain! Don’t!” as his co-host asked: ”What did he say?”
He refused to repeat the previous remarks, instead saying: “Don’t, don’t. He’s been in lockdown for too long,” whilst Iain chuckled away at himself.
This morning’s programme later saw another very familiar face join the hosts as presenter Kate Garraway appeared live from her home for the first time since her husband, Derek Draper, contracted coronavirus.
