UK coronavirus death toll rises by 269 in lowest daily rise since March

CORONAVIRUS deaths in the UK have jumped to 31,855 after 269 more people died – the lowest rise since March.

Positive cases also jumped to 219,183 from 215,260 as Britain prepares to enter relaxed lockdown measures.

The Department of Health confirmed 269 more people have died – the lowest rise since March 29 when 214 were killed by the virus.

But there is a lag in reporting the figures over the weekend so the number is likely to rise again from next week.

The figure includes deaths both in hospitals and the community – including care homes.

The government also revealed the number of tests fell below the 100,000 target for the eighth day in a row – with 92,837 carried out.

Among the latest deaths is an NHS nurse who told her family she had a "duty" to help patients with the deadly disease.

Onyenachi Obasi, 51, was remembered as a "dedicated and loving" worker who "gave her life" doing what she loved.

And dad-of-four Augustine Agyei-Mensah, who worked with people with learning disabilities, also lost his life to the killer bug.

The tragic deaths bring the total number of NHS and care home workers who have died to 203.
