Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne) has been in a fragile place ever since she was taken captive by a deranged Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) in Neighbours. And while that would be enough to trigger something in her, the self-blame that has followed has led her to a dark place, along with the blame pouring in from others, and it’s set Susan on a course that could leave her very broken indeed.

What she needs is for her loved ones to be by her side to help her through this awful time, not turning against her at the exact moment she needs them. A bit too much to ask.

Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Bea (Bonnie Anderson) have begun to pick up on things, they know something still isn’t right with Susan. Her mental state is their biggest concern, she is deteriorating before their eyes and they know they need to do something.

They convince her to attend a grief support group which is the first step in motivating her to get help, and they hope it will help her work through her complicated feelings surrounding Finn’s death.

But in a move they couldn’t have predicted, it ends up doing worse damage than they could have imagined. They discover they are attending the same group as Sheila (Colette Mann), who is absolutely furious – this group has become her safe place where she has been able to share her grief and away from the people she blames for causing her pain.

But now it’s been gate-crashed by Susan, the person at the epicentre of her pain.

Sheila could be about to blow again, and Susan isn’t strong enough to withstand the force. Is Susan facing a breakdown?

If that isn’t enough to do it, a new discovery might be. Susan is close to hitting rock bottom and she needs those around her to help keep her sane. But the rug is about to be pulled from under her when after a gentle nudge Karl finally comes clean; he admits he blames her for what Finn did. It’s her fault he came to Ramsay Street in the first place.

Susan is utterly crushed by his admission and though he tries to explain himself she’s deeply wounded and his words have done irreparable damage.

Is this a knock that their marriage isn’t strong enough to take? Is it enough to push Susan over the edge?

Scenes air from Monday 27th April on Channel 5.
