Dr Hilary Jones urged Good Morning Britain viewers to avoid napping in the day during coronavirus lockdown.
The 66-year-old joined Lorraine to share tips on sleeping better during the pandemic as thousands are being kept awake during these uncertain times.
‘It’s important to be able to switch off, to distract yourself – exercise is really important because that helps you to get to sleep and sleep well,’ the medical expert began.
‘Napping during the day is a no no,’ he stressed. ‘If you nap during the day it will definitely impinge on your quality of sleep in the night.
‘If you feel a bit sleepy in the afternoon, usually after lunch, keep yourself busy – maybe do your exercise then.’
Dr Hilary warned fans that falling asleep to your laptop or phone can be incredibly damaging to your sleep.
‘It’s blue lights, it’s increasing the hormones at the back of the eye which keeps you alert and awake so keep technology away,’ he continued.
‘Even with TVs, if you’re watching TV in your bedroom make sure it’s a funny film or something that lifts your spirits- not too gloomy.
‘Maybe read a book instead because reading a book will help you drift off to sleep.’
Dr Hilary’s latest advice comes after he insisted Piers Morgan couldn’t wash his Aston Martin and you shouldn’t be washing your car either.
As it stands, lockdown laws are still firmly in place as the virus continues to claim hundreds of lives a day in the UK alone. The country’s death count soared past 12,000 lives lost yesterday as a further 778 people were recorded to have passed away from the illness.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
