Tom Brady never envisioned a family unit while playing football. He believed a wife and kids would come after hanging up the cleats.
“I didn’t want to have kids or get married until my late 30s, that was the plan,” the 42-year-old Buccaneers quarterback told Howard Stern on Wednesday. “I remember thinking, ‘I don’t want anything to get in the way,’ once my football career kind of got rolling.”
Though Brady didn’t shy away from a personal life during his early years with the Patriots, his original plans were suddenly derailed in 2007, when ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan — whom he split from in late 2006 — welcomed their first child.
Brady and Gisele Bündchen were only dating for two months when she learned of Moynahan’s pregnancy, which the model detailed in her 2018 memoir, “Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life.”
“Two months into our relationship, Tom told me that his ex-girlfriend was pregnant. The very next day the news was everywhere, and I felt my world had been turned upside down,” she recalled.
Brady and Bündchen’s modern family has evolved since tying the knot in 2009, as they share 10-year-old son Benjamin and 7-year-old daughter Vivian.
The Brady bunch has adapted to several changes as of late, including moving into Derek Jeter’s Tampa mansion, with the six-time Super Bowl champ readying for his first year with the Buccaneers.
