EASTENDERS fans are convinced that Mitch Baker will become the new landlord of the Queen Vic as Mick Carter gears up to leave.
During last night’s episode the barber, played by Roger Griffiths, told Mick “he could do his job” as he expressed his frustration about being treated differently due to the colour of his skin.
In recent weeks the Baker family have been part of an important race storyline as Keegan has struggled with the police and has been unable to get a loan.
Keegan insisted that Mitch owed it to his daughter Bailey to tell her that she might be treated differently at times and in heart-breaking scenes he sat her down to explain that racism is still a huge issue.
He later went to the pub and decided to ask Mick what he really thought of him and things quickly escalated into a row.
As he sat down, Mick asked him: “Settled in for another hard day at the office?”
Furious Mitch replied: “What are you trying to say, all I am good for is sticking around the boozer all day?”
Confused Mick asked: “What’s the matter with you – I would be the first one to try and get a day off.”
Mitch then asked Mick what he saw when he looked at him and when he couldn’t reply, Mitch said: “See you can’t even answer that can ya. You don’t see me, my ideas, my ambition, do you?
“You still think I am a shirker don’t ya. Let me tell you I could do your job any day.”
Those watching at home are convinced the conversation is a sign of what is to come and believe it would be a great ending to the racism storyline.
One person wrote: “’I can do your job any day’.Guess we know who the new Queen Vic owner is going to be then eh?#Mitch #Eastenders.”
A second added: “#Eastenders woke producers had a meeting and said ‘Whoever the new owners of the Queen Vic are they cannot be white. White is bad’. ‘Get Mitch to become owner’, said one woke script editor. **nobody disagrees**”
While a third commented: “#Eastenders Mitch to be new landlord of Vic….I give him a week.”
Earlier this week The Sun revealed that Mick (Danny Dyer) would no longer be pulling pints at the pub after becoming landlord since he joined in 2013.
He made the decision as he wife Linda battles with alcoholism, meaning some of Walford’s biggest names – including warring ex-couple Phil and Sharon Mitchell – will be competing to takeover while the Carters move elsewhere in Albert Square.
The Queen Vic landlord is considered one of the most sought-after parts in soapland.
Former landlords have included Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor), Alfie and Kat Moon (Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace), Frank and Pat Butcher (Mike Reid and Pam St Clement) and Den and Angie Watts (Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson).
