Priya is the younger sister of Raj (Kunal Nayyar) in The Big Bang Theory who first appears in The Irish Pub Formulation. Priya becomes a rival of Penny (Kaley Cuoco) who thinks she is interested in Leonard (Johhny Galecki).
In the series Priya is a law graduate and is an attorney for a huge car company in India.
Penny, Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch) all take a disliking to her as the rival female.
Priya and Leonard continue to progress with their relationship throughout the series until he gets together with Penny.
Priya seems to disappear in the 10th season of the Big Bang Theory, although she is mentioned a couple of times.

She appears in a total of 12 episodes across the 12 series.
However, Priya has not featured at all so far in the spin-off series Young Sheldon.
The actress who plays her is Indian-American actress Aarti Majumdar.
She is more widely known by her stage name Aarti Mann.
Aarti has starred in a number of TV programmes, including the sci-fi drama Heroes.
She began acting in the mid 2000s and started off in small roles.
Her sister Kruti is a filmmaker and cast Mann in a film called The Memsahib in 2006.
From here made the decision to commit to a career in acting.

Priya Koothrappali is the only recurring role she has played, but she has starred in episodes of other series.
She was in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy in 2017 and NCIS: New Orleans in 2015.
She was also in an episode of Suits, and The Young and the Restless.
Her filmography includes Love Sonia, I’ll See You In My Dreams and The Monogamy Experiment.

Speaking to Post Gazette ahead of the fifth series she said: “I would love to come back and see where it goes with Leonard and Priya.
“But no contracts have been signed. I think we’ll know by June or July.”
She said if she were to compare herself to Priya, she sees herself as totally different.
Her character is not the most liked in the series but Aarti said she would “defend” Priya.
