Korean film Parasite has won Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars.

The film from Okja director Bong Joon-ho is the first film not in the English Language to win the award.

Bong won the award for Best Director earlier in the evening in another unexpected triumph.

The favourite going into the ceremony was Sam Mendes' war epic 1917.

It also beat other Best Picture nominees such as Ford v Ferrari, Little Women, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, The Irishman, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The director joked on stage: "I’m ready to drink tonight."

He was joined on-stage by the film's jubilant cast and crew, where he also spoke about hoping that the win "opened the door" for further non-English language films at the Academy Awards.
