JOSE MOURINHO's 2020 got off to a dismal start as Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Southampton.

A first-half strike from Danny Ings was enough to give the Saints all three points, whilst Harry Kane was also forced off moments after having a goal chalked by VAR.

And it's also a crucial time off the pitch, with the January transfer window getting underway and Tottenham looking to sign Leicester's Ricardo Pereira and West Brom's Nathan Ferguson.

  • FORMER Spurs goalkeeper has urged his old club to try and swap Christian Eriksen for Gareth Bale.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think they should try to get him if they can.

“I think if Eriksen is going to go to Real Madrid, I think that would be the perfect deal for Tottenham and Tottenham supporters.

“He’ll be the perfect fit for Mourinho, he’d give the whole place a lift, rather than have Eriksen who clearly doesn’t want to be there.

“He’s sulking and he’s not happy, it looks like he is going to want to leave.

“To get someone of Bale’s quality in, as part of a deal, if that’s possible then it’ll be great.”

  • ROMA are reportedly open to selling Arsenal and Spurs target Cengiz Under.

Calciomercato claim the Turkish winger could be sold in January as injuries disrupt his season.

The 22-year-old – tied down at the club until 2023 – has featured in just ten games this term.

However they report that it is unlikely the player will end up in North London come February.

The player is valued at around £34million.

  • SPURS reportedly refused to pay the £14million in image rights in order to secure the services of Juventus ace Paulu Dybala.

It was initially stated that the Old Lady pulled out of the move and decided against signing him.

But the Times claim that Daniel Levy didn't want to pay an addition £14m fee for his image rights owned by his former agent Pierpaolo Triulzi.

Dybala has netted nine times in 22 games this term.

  • JAN VERTONGHEN has revealed Spurs have the squad to cope without Harry Kane as he bemoaned his side's tactics.

Tottenham were second best against Southampton as they lost 1-0 at St Mary's, with Kane going off with a hamstring injury.

Vertonghen said: “Harry is obviously a very important player for us.

“But we have the squad to cope without him.

“First half we had to play more.

“There was the possibility to play, but we used long balls too quick.”
