Demi Lovato has officially branded herself a survivor.
The “Skyscraper” singer, 27, has been candid about her mental and physical struggles after a near-fatal overdose last year. Now, she’s marking the end of the decade with a new neck tattoo that simply reads: “survivor.”
Celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo is responsible for the ink. The artist has plenty of experience with these types of tats; he recently gave Justin Bieber a “forever” neck tattoo to match the “lover” scroll he put on wife Hailey Baldwin’s neck ahead of their second wedding in September.
Lovato recently opened up about feeling stronger than ever at this point in her life, calling herself a “fighter.”
“I see someone that has overcome a lot,” she told the crowd at the Teen Vogue Summit in November. “Like, if I could change my middle name to ‘Resilience’ — which I can, so I don’t know why I just said that — I would.”
This isn’t Lovato’s first self-love tattoo; over the summer, she inked the word “me” on her left ring finger, indicating that she would love herself over any others.
She also has designs that are meaningful to her struggle with mental health issues and drug addiction — her mantra “stay strong” is written on her wrists, while the words “now I’m a warrior” adorn her back. She also has 12 black birds flying across her right forearm, a tattoo that mimics the cover of her book “Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year.”
To mark six months of sobriety after her overdose and rehab stint in January, Lovato had a rose tattooed on the inside of her pointer finger.
