A new study has rounded up a list of the top 50 European cities for single people, and the UK features twice in the top 10.

Anyone who’s found themselves on the dating scene recently will no doubt agree that it’s rough out there. It’s hard to choose when to swipe right on dating apps, thanks to nearly every profile bio reading exactly the same. And we’ve nearly lost track of the obscure dating terms out there. Also, let’s not forget to guy who tried to shame a girl for wearing an ASOS dress in her profile photo. Eugh.

But, during these dark times, it’s important to remember that dating is meant to be fun…

One writer recently reminded us of how exciting dating can be when she went speed dating on Valentine’s Day. And Tinder’s new interactive game, which pairs people up in an apocalyptic world, actually sounds pretty fun. Research has even suggested that kissing a stanger can make you less stressed.

The question is: where should we be dating?

A new study has now put together the top 50 cities in Europe for single people to live in.

But, what exactly makes a city a great place for dating? The criteria used in this particular survey, conducted by travel company Gig 7, was as follows:

-Highest usage rate of Tinder and/or Badoo dating apps

-Population percentage of single people per capita

-Overall population of city (because you don’t want a date where you’ll bump into that person the next day)

-Data from dating app research on Statista

-Quality of dating scene as voted for by sample of our 1.5million European audience

So, how did the UK’s cities fare?

London was the highest ranking UK city in fourth place. The research found that 245 million matches have been made in the capital on Tinder. It also reported that 44% of people living in the city live alone. London is the best city in the world when it comes to dating apps, according to Tinder. And the plethora of events and culture makes it an exciting city to date in.

Oxford was the only other UK city to make the top 10, taking the number eight spot. It is the fourth best city in the world for getting the most matches on Tinder. A solid 21% of the population are enrolled for full-time studies in two universities – the highest in England. Student town with plenty of singles? Perfect.

Outside of the top 10, nine UK cities were also featured.

Manchester ranked 16th, Glasgow came 17th and Bristol was placed 20th.

Liverpool was then 28th, Belfast was 29th, Edinburgh ranked 34th and Nottingham was 39th.

Towards the end of the list, Leeds came in at 44, and Birmingham took the last place at 50.

And if you’re wondering which European cities took the top spots: Stockholm, Madrid and Oslo came first, second and third respectively.

Although plenty of single people will have thoughts on the results, it’s a reminder that we have some brilliant cities to have plenty of fun in – whether you’re dating or not.

(And I can confirm that I’ve definitely had fun as a singleton in Leeds before…)
