On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked planes and flew them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, killing thousands of civilians and firefighters, changing the country forever.

During Big Brother 2, they notified the Houseguests of the attack, especially Monica Bailey, who had a cousin who worked in Tower 2. Today is the 18th anniversary, and Big Brother 21 houseguests had a 9/11 memorial service to remember the terrifying event. Keep reading.

Houseguests remember 9/11 terrorist attacks

The night before, they covered the middle table with a blue tablecloth and spelled “9/11 we remember” using Fruit Loops. They also filled a bucket with stones and used it as a flag holder.

Today, at 6 a.m. Big Brother Time, the Live Feeds captured the Houseguests as they dressed in red, white, and blue, attire and gathered in the living room to pay their respects. First, they faced the flag and had a moment of silence for all those who lost their lives in the attack.

Then, they sang an acapella version of Star-Spangled Banner with their hands over their hearts. Finally, the Houseguests sat around the couch and shared stories about where they were when they found about the attack.

Cliff remembered hearing it on the radio and planes had to be grounded, and Holly was in junior high school and remembered feeling everyone’s fear. Jackson, Nicole, and Tommy, who were around six or seven years old at the time didn’t fully understand the magnitude of what happened.

However, Tommy recalled getting so scared he dug a hole in the backyard in case he and his friends had to live in there. They conclude their service by giving out hugs before going into the RV room to continue the conversation.

Even though the Houseguests are out of touch with the outside world, they said today they feel what everyone else around the country is feeling.

‘Big Brother 2’ Monica Bailey’s cousin caught in 9/11 attacks

The terrorist attacks happened during Big Brother 2, and they informed the Houseguests about what happened. Before production revealed it to everyone, Big Brother called Brooklyn native Monica Bailey into the Diary Room to tell her first because her cousin, Tamitha, worked in the Twin Towers.

Additionally, she hadn’t been accounted for and was missing for at least four days. Initially, the production told her it didn’t necessarily mean something was wrong because at the time it was very chaotic, and Monica seemingly took the news well.

Other Houseguests commended Monica’s strength and her calmness in the face of something so scary. The Brooklyn native said in the Diary Room that she wants her family to focus on each other and handling their business, not her.

Production continued to fill her in on any updates, but they hadn’t heard anything for a few days after that. Although it’s not clear when Monica found out, Tamitha did pass away in the attack, leaving a young son behind. Watch Big Brother 21 Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
