The Walking Dead star Christian Serratos is in ‘negotiations’ to star in the Netflix series about the life of Selena Quintanilla.

Sources have said that Christian, who plays Rosita on The Walking Dead, is close to signing up for the starring role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it has ‘come down to scheduling issues as she juggles production in Atlanta on the upcoming tenth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead’.

The scripted series will tell the story of the successful Tejano music star who won a Grammy in 1994 for best Mexican/Latin album.

She was tragically shot and killed in 1995 by her manager Yolanda Saldivar.

The singer was previously played on the big screen by Jennifer Lopez in a 1997 film.

Christian has played Rosita since season four of the zombie comic book series.

Selena: The Series is set to go into production in Mexico next month, which could cause some overlap with The Walking Dead.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Netflix for comment.

Rosita is set to be at the forefront of drama in season 10, as she raises her daughter Socorro, or Coco for short.

AMC recently offered a first look at the mum and baby ahead of the new episodes, along with Eugene, played by Josh McDermitt.

Coco’s name was chosen with help from Christian herself as Socorro – Spanish for ‘help’ or ‘relief’ – has been passed down through generations of women in the actress’ family.

Christian, who’s a mum in real life, told Metro.co.uk how she struggled coming back to film after undergoing a C-section last May.

‘It was fun but I could really not enjoy it to fullest because that was my first episode at work after having my baby,’ Christian said.

‘She was a C-section so I was still recovering, I’m still recovering. But we didn’t quite gauge the weight – it was a real rocket launcher. They thought it was about half the weight that it was. I couldn’t carry a heavy purse, much less a 45 pound rocket launcher.’

Season 10 will see a major character departure as Danai Gurira leaves the role of Michonne.

When chatting to the Los Angeles Times, the star opened up on her departure, and gave an insight into what viewers can expect.

She told the publication: ‘I know nothing. But what I will say in my know-nothingness, the great thing about this show is they are very, very, fantastic at creating great structure for everyone’s story.

‘I was in a room where they have all the pictures of people who have left the show, and everyone’s exit has been so specific and really resonate in its own, very original way.’

She added: ‘There was no exception to that in my case, I’m very thankful for that. And I was allowed to be a collaborator.

‘But they created a very, very, very sound structure of how Michonne exits, which I was very thankful for.’

The Walking Dead returns 7 October at 9pm on FOX.
