Coronation Street: The Barlow’s interrogate Peter

Coronation Street has been revealed as the most complained about British show on TV for its frequent depictions of drugs, smoking and alcohol.

The world’s longest-running soap has received by far the most complaints about depictions of smoking, drinking and drug use than any other show.

With 360 complaints they have over double the amount of the second-placed show Emmerdale which has 135.

With many of the scenes set in the Rovers Return, alcohol is frequently featured.

They have also depicted many smoking scenes – not least earlier this year when Brian Packham (played by Peter Gunn) was frequently depicted smoking with his Italian cousin Isabella.

Alongside this, they have featured many scenes of people buying drugs or suffering the effects of them.

At the moment, reformed drug addict Abbie Webster (Sally Carman) is living on the street and working with her husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell) in his garage.

However, she has previously relapsed and even fell pregnant and carried the child without realising while on a bender.

Currently, Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) – Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) mother is living with him but she has an ongoing struggle with drugs and has relapsed and purchased them in the past month – even overdosing at one point.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Coronation Street for comment.
