EASTENDERS screenwriter Sarah Phelps has revealed her agony over the death of her mum.

She passed away from "remorseless" cancer this morning, Sarah said.

Sharing a picture of a treeline set against the morning sky, she wrote on Twitter: "My darling mum died at 3 minutes past 1 this morning.

"God but cancer is so remorseless but at the very very end, it was gentle, she was at home and we were all with her.

"We loved her so very much. Go well across the shining river. Go well."

Sarah has written a string of TV hits including the BBC's A Very British Scandal and The ABC Murders.
