Susan Rice and several other prominent Democrats cheered the selection of California Sen. Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s 2020 running mate on Tuesday.

“Senator Harris is a tenacious and trailblazing leader who will make a great partner on the campaign trail,” said Rice, who served as national security advisor under President Obama and was another rumored contender for the veep pick.

“I look forward to supporting the Biden-Harris ticket with all my energy and commitment,” continued Rice in a statement posted to Twitter.

Rice was hardly the only one to weigh in on Biden’s selection.

“Filled with joy that Sen. @KamalaHarris is our Vice Presidential nominee,” tweeted Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who both ran her own 2020 White House campaign and was in the running for Biden’s veep spot until withdrawing and encouraging him to nominate “a woman of color.”

“This is a historic moment, and I know that her leadership, experience, and character will help move our country forward when she and @JoeBiden take back the White House!”

Added one-time veep contender and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, “I am extraordinarily proud to support @KamalaHarris and @JoeBiden! They will be a fierce team to Build America Back Better. #WeHaveHerBack”

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren — like Klobuchar a former 2020 candidate turned potential Biden running mate — also weighed in.

“I’ve known Kamala Harris for a long time — from when she took on Wall Street during the financial crisis as Attorney General to working for the people every day as a United States Senator,” said Warren in a tweeted statement. “Throughout her career, she has been unafraid, and an inspiration to millions of women who see themselves in her.

“And I’m SO looking forward to seeing Kamala take on Mike Pence on the debate stage,” added Warren. “Go Kamala!”

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the last man standing against Biden before the former vice president became the presumptive presidential nominee, praised the pick.

“She understands what it takes to stand up for working people, fight for health care for all, and take down the most corrupt administration in history,” Sanders tweeted.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised her fellow California lawmaker for her “legacy of trailblazing leadership” while former President Bill Clinton called Harris a “terrific choice.”

Former First Lady and 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton joined with her husband in cheering the nod for Harris.

I’m thrilled to welcome @KamalaHarris to a historic Democratic ticket,” she said. “She’s already proven herself to be an incredible public servant and leader. And I know she’ll be a strong partner to @JoeBiden.”

Former President Obama, who tapped Biden as his own running mate, also endorsed the selection.

“She’s spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake,” wrote Obama of Harris. “This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing.”
