Lamb stop! ‘Stampede’ of sheep brings bus to a halt as flock is driven along a residential street

  • Wayne Kinney spotted the bizarre encounter outside his home in East Sussex
  • Flock brought traffic to a halt as sheep swarmed along the road and pavement
  • They were being herded by a group of people on foot and another on a quad bike

Dozens of sheep were caught on camera bringing traffic to a standstill after a flock was herded along a residential street.

Footage of the bizarre sighting, captured in Peacehaven, East Sussex, at around 10am on Saturday shows the farm animals bundling along the road and pavement.

The flock, which is being herded by a group of people on foot and another on a quad bike bringing up the rear, then swarms around a stationary double decker bus before other baffled drivers also grind to a halt.

In the clip, captured by resident Wayne Kinney, the bus can be seen waiting in the middle of the road as the passenger in black 4×4, travelling in the opposite direction, frantically waves for oncoming traffic to slow down.

Wayne zooms in on the flock as a baffled child in the background repeatedly asks: ‘Why is there a load of sheep?’

The flock begin to pick up the pace as they round the corner with the quad bike speeding along behind them as Wayne admits he has only ever seen this happen once before.

Other drivers came to an abrupt halt in the face of the oncoming stampede which appeared to have kicked up a plume of dust

The video then jumps to another angle to show the men shouting and running alongside the flock as the sheep bound down the carriageway.

The flock bounds into the distance but is followed by a silver 4×4 towing a trailer containing two more sheep.

Wayne said he had been eating a full English breakfast at the time before he looked out of the window to spot a sea of sheep seemingly ‘stampeding’ towards his house.

It is thought that the sheep, which belong to a nearby farm, were being moved from one site to another in what is believed to be an annual occurrence.
