PRITI Patel has vowed to end freedom of movement "once and for all" after Brexit and "take back control" of Britain's borders.

The Home Secretary told the Tory party conference the government would introduce an Australian-style points system that works in the "best interests of Britain".

During her commanding conference speech, the Home Secretary vowed to:

  • End freedom of movement "once and for all" after Brexit
  • Give forces the power to increase the number of cops carrying TASERs
  • Tackle county lines drug gangs, including creating squad within BTP
  • Create £25m Safer Streets Fund to invest in CCTV & street lighting

'TAKING BACK CONTROL'

Ms Patel has previously indicated that the Tories would abolish freedom of movement as soon as we left the EU on October 31.

While Boris Johnson also suggested the proposal during the Conservative leadership race back in June.

Reiterating the hard-line immigration pledge in Manchester today, Ms Patel said: "I have a particular responsibility when it comes to taking back control.

"It is to end the free movement of people once and for all.

"Instead we will introduce an Australian style points-based immigration system.

I have a particular responsibility when it comes to taking back control. It is to end the free movement of people once and for all.

"One that works in the best interests of Britain.

"One that attracts and welcomes the brightest and the best.

"One that supports brilliant scientists, the finest academics and leading people in their fields.

"And one that is under the control of the British Government.

"Because, let me tell you something.

"This daughter of immigrants, needs no lectures from the North London metropolitan liberal elite.

PRITI'S WAR ON DRUGS

Ms Patel also announced a £20million fund to tackle county lines drugs gangs to stop them “terrorising” Britain’s kids.

The Home Secretary vowed to hunt down the criminals “exploiting” children and told them “we’re coming after you”.

Ms Patel then pledged an extra £25million to make Britain’s most dangerous and crime-ridden areas safer.

She told delegates that backing the “forces of law and order is central to our DNA as Conservatives.”

She then went on: “The second reason we must back the police is to remove the grip gangs and organised criminals have on our communities.

“They just don’t care who they hurt or abuse.

“The kingpins of these criminal gangs are exploiting children. Forcing them to carry crack cocaine and heroin across rural and coastal communities.

“Threatening them into carrying guns and knives as ‘protection’. Manipulating them into killing innocent people.

“Faced with this new and growing danger, our police will know that I will back them to get this under control.

Faced with this new and growing danger, our police will know that I will back them to get this under control.

"And today I am announcing a £20 million package to roll up county lines drugs gangs.

"To stop them terrorising our towns and villages and exploiting our children.

“And a new £25 million Safer Streets fund for new security measures for Britain’s worst crime spots.

“And as well as giving the police the kit and powers they need, we must do more to recognise their commitment, their bravery, and their professionalism."

PRITI SICK OF JEZ

Ms Patel also used her speech to take a swipe at Labour boss Jeremy Corbyn and shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott.

She claimed Labour would see Britain’s streets less safe and accused Labour of “trusting our foes rather than our friends”.

The Labour Party trust our foes more than our friends.

The Home Secretary said: “Of course, there will be only two dissenting voices.

“Diane Abbott and Jeremy Corbyn.

“Because the choice isn’t just who the people want to be our next Prime Minister.

“It’s also about who the people want to be their next Home Secretary.

“Do we really want a Labour Home Secretary who would leave our communities and our country less safe?

“A Labour Party who won’t even attempt to take back control of our borders.

“Because they want to surrender our border control and extend free movement.

“And on policing The Labour Party would stop the police from doing their job.

“And when it comes to our brilliant intelligence agencies, well – what can I say?

“The Labour Party trust our foes more than our friends.”

CRIME CLAMPDOWN

Ms Patel's speech comes after Justice Secretary Robert Buckland unveiled plans to axe automatic early release for serious violent criminals and sexual offenders.

Instead of being let out half way through their sentence, they will now have to spend at least two-thirds of their term behind bars.

It means rapists will face up to two more years in jail.

Mr Buckland said: “We owe it to the victims.”

The pledge is the latest bid to toughen up the Tories’ reputation on law and order following a blood curdling surge in knife attacks.

Boris Johnson has vowed to hire 20,000 more police officers and rip up sentencing rules to ensure child killers get “life” terms.

Currently, almost all serious violent and sexual offenders are automatically released half way through their prison term under changes brought in by Labour in 2005.

The new proposals mean a rapist sentenced to 14 years will have to serve 9.3 years instead of 7.

It wouldn’t cover murder as killers have to serve their whole tariff before going in front of the Parole Board.
