THE mummified remains of a missing woman have been found at a storage unit months after her death.
Britta Ann Lashley, 36, disappeared more than a year ago after her worried mom said she had not heard from her daughter for months.
On July 12 her decomposed remains were found in a unit in Prattville, Alabama.
Police have now identified the owner of that space as 52-year-old James Michael Barrett, 52.
He has since been charged with abuse of a corpse, along with Edward Norman, 60.
Lashley was last seen on February 21 last year. She was reported missing by her mom Tammy Lashley on June 15 of this year.
Barrett is said to have repeatedly told Tammy that her daughter would call in the weeks before she reported her missing.
A deposition states: "Tammy Lashley last spoke with James Michael Barrett by phone, several weeks before filing the report.
"He [Barrett] advised her that he would have Britta Lashley contact her; however, Britta Lashley did not contact her mother."
Following the grim discovery, officials said: "Based on Britt’s physical description, her known tattoos, and other investigative findings, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office is confident the remains are those of Britta Ann Lashley."
The Autauga County Sheriff's Office said Tammy"believed 'something bad' had happened" to her daughter.
They added: "Britta was last known to be in the company of James "Michael" Barrett."

Britt's body is thought to have been first stored at the Comfort Stay motel in Montgomery, Alabama, where Barrett worked.
It was moved after nine months – allegedly with the help of Norman – to the unit, according to reports.
Lashley’s sister, Tish Forgey, told AL.com: "She was tossed out like a piece of garbage. Nobody deserves to end this way.”
A cause of death has yet to be determined but District Attorney C.J. Robinson said there is currently no evidence of homicide.

Police said: "On July 13, 2022, an autopsy was performed by the Department of Forensic Sciences.
"The findings from the autopsy are still pending."
