Jim Davidson has criticised ‘leftie’ celebrities who say they will take in Ukrainian refugees into their homes, saying that they are ‘not in the real world’.
The comedian questioned whether actors and presenters would be prepared to ‘take in a veteran that’s homeless’, or whether ‘that [would not be] leftie enough.’
His comments came after Benedict Cumberbatch, while attending the Bafta Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, said he would offer his home to Ukrainians fleeing the country’s war with Russia.
Speaking to Sky News on the red carpet the Power of the Dog star, seen wearing a Ukraine flag pin badge, said: ‘It is a really shocking time to be a European two and a half hours flight away from Ukraine, and it’s something that hangs over us.

‘I think already today the news has broken that there’s been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes, and I hope to be part of that myself.’
Davidson was appearing on GB News’ Dan Wootton Tonight show when he weighed in on the film star.
Asked by host Wootton if celebrities like Cumberbatch ‘need to politically virtue signal at these events’, he replied: ‘It’s what people do, it’s their chance to get on a soap box.
‘Ask him if he’ll take in a veteran that’s homeless who has fought in many wars for this country. That’s not leftie enough.

Those taking part in the scheme will be given £350 a month to cover the costs of supporting refugees in their primary home or in a second home.
If he takes part on the scheme, Cumberbatch could welcome a Ukrainian refugee to his sprawling £4million London townhouse – or one of his two flats in the capital.
It is not the first time the tireless thespian, who owns a five-bedroom townhouse in Camden, alongside two rental properties in the capital, has expressed an interest in offering his home to refugees.

Cabinet minister Mr Gove pointed to surveys indicating that as many as one in 10 people are ready to put up people fleeing from the Russian invasion.
But Mr Gove – who recently divorced – admitted he was not yet sure whether he personally will be able to contribute. Keir Starmer confirmed that he is planning to be a host.
Around 3,000 visas have now been granted for Ukrainian refugees, with the new ‘sponsored’ route due to launch this week.
Under the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme, sponsors who provide accommodation rent-free for a minimum of six months will receive a monthly fee of £350 from the government, however many refugees they take.
Individuals, charities, community groups and businesses will all be eligible to bring those fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine to safety.
