The current owner, Ernie Bartlett, has now moved into a retirement home.

One of the white pillars outside the front of the home has a crack in it from when a tank was driven into it while on the way to take part in the D-Day Normandy Landings in 1944.

The pillars also bear evidence of the original gate which stood between them but was removed to contribute materials to the war effort.

Dean Jones, the nephew of Mr Bartlett, who lived in the property until he was four, said, ‘It has been in the Bartlett family about 100 years, and I think it was probably built around 1860.’

‘My uncle has lived there all his life, he was one of ten children who lived there.’

Mr Bartlett inherited the property from his Mother in 1964.

‘I used to go back weekly with my mum to visit my auntie Edna, who died in the early 1980s,’ Mr Jones said.

‘She lived with Les and Ernie, Edna being the oldest of 10 children and Ernie being the youngest.’

The third floor features all three bedrooms and a bathroom. Pictured: One of the bedrooms, which is more than big enough for a double bed

Mr Jones said he loved visiting as a child: ‘I have fond memories, as a young kid it was like a wonderland.

‘There used to be a monkey tree in the garden and it was a lookout for pirates.’

Speaking of the pillars, Mr Jones said, ‘You can still see where they took the gate for the war effort.’

‘There is even a crack in one of the pillars when a tank rode into it going off for D-Day.’

Mr Bartlett was a collector, as seen in the pictures which feature hundreds of figurines.

Mr Jones said his uncle collected lead soldiers, ships, trains, plates and cars.

‘If you go in there it’s like a museum,’ said Mr Jones.

The walls of the home are still adorned with the items Mr Bartlett has collected throughout his long life

Located on Millbrook Road East, the house is just a few minutes from Millbrook train station and just over a 20 minute walk into the centre of Southampton

The house is an unusual looking property, due to the steep bank from the front it looks like it only has one floor but from the back garden there are actually three.

On the first floor, there is a reception room and storage space. Heading up the stairs you can find two reception rooms and a small kitchen.

The third floor features all three bedrooms and a bathroom.

Not only does the property itself offer loads of potential, it is also in an ideal location.
