The shocking footage shows a grey sedan quickly reverse as the CSX locomotive repeatedly honks in La Grange, Kentucky.

The train, which had been going from Louisville and Cincinnati, kept edging towards the car and appeared to flash its lights.

But the car quickly speeds off the rails just before the locomotive flies past.

The footage was uploaded to Reddit and users expressed their concern for the driver’s safety.

One commented: ‘I honestly thought they were going to keep backing up straight and get stuck on the rails.’

Another wrote: ‘You can practically hear the person inside saying, well this train really needs to get out of my way, let’s see what he’s going to do before I make my move.’

One man posted: ‘I expected the car to circle back around and somehow run into the side of the train.’

And a woman added: ‘My jaw literally dropped when they didn’t put it I drive and pull to the right after backing up for the first time. How the f*** is that person get a licence.’

The small town of La Grange sees around 15 trains a day go through its city street, with them slowing down to 10mph as they head towards Cincinnati or Louisville.

The footage appeared to have been first posted in October 2017, but has reemerged on social media.
