A front row fan of free speech: Twitter’s new boss Elon Musk is pictured alongside Diddy at Dave Chappelle’s Hollywood Bowl show – in sign of support for comedian who was very nearly cancelled by woke mob over his trans jokes

  • He was sitting next to Diddy when an attacker stormed the stage to harm the comedian
  • His presence is poignant – Chappelle was nearly canceled last year for his trans jokes
  • Musk, who recently bought Twitter, has vowed to restore free speech to the platform and not bow to the woke mob
  • After the attack, Chappelle joked: ‘That was a trans man’
  • He had been joking about how he had to increase his security as a result of the trans controversy last year

Free-speech champion Elon Musk sat front row at Dave Chappelle’s show at the Hollywood Bowl last night, completely undeterred by the fact many wanted to see the comedian canceled over his trans jokes and opinions.

Fresh from the Met Gala in New York on Monday, Musk was pictured next to Diddy and other stars before an audience member ran on stage and tried to attack Chappelle.

Chappelle had been joking about having to beef up his security as a result of the hate he receives from some trans advocates when Isaiah Lee, 23, stormed the stage.

He was armed with a knife stashed inside a gun and made a bee-line for the comedian to tackle him.

Chappelle swerved the attack and was unharmed. Lee had his arm broken in the melee and is now in jail on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon. His motive for the attack remains unclear.

Dave Chappelle was nearly canceled last year after making jokes about trans women

The scuffle happened in front of an A-list audience which included not only Musk but Beyonce and Jay Z, Madonna and Christina Milian.

Milian was visibly shocked as she left the show after the attempt to harm Chappelle.

Musk recently bought Twitter in an apparent effort to restore free speech to the platform and dilute the hold of the woke brigade on big tech.

He has said repeatedly that he believes the tech company has become beholden to a mob of ultra-left wing bullies, and that Republicans and right-wingers are being marginalized as a result.

His appearance at Chappelle’s show on Tuesday night fits with that position.

Immediately after the incident last night, Chappelle’s first joke was: ‘That was a trans man.’ He has already been slammed by some.

Chappelle was close to being cancelled in October last year when he made jokes in a Netflix special about trans people.

He said women today view transwomen the same way black people might view white women wearing blackface, and remarked that women are entitled to feel anger toward transwomen, since Caitlyn Jenner won Glamour magazine’s 2015 Woman of the Year award.

‘I’d be mad as sh*t if I was a woman,’ Chappelle said in one section and in another, he said: ‘Gender is a fact.’

There was furious outrage and threats to boycott Netflix because of what he’d said.

He later addressed the controversy saying: ‘I said what I said and my god, I heard what you said.

‘To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, but you will not summon me. I am not bending to anyone’s demands, and if you want to meet with me, I am more than willing to, but I have some conditions.

‘First of all, you cannot come if you have not watched my special from beginning to end. You must come to a place of my choosing at a time of my choosing, and thirdly, you must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny.

‘Am I canceled or not? Then let’s go!’

Lee, 23, remains behind bars for trying to attack Chappelle. He has not yet made his first court appearance.
