Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday belted out a lyric from Funkadelic’s “One Nation Under a Groove” in a glass-breaking falsetto, while announcing that the funk band’s George Clinton, among others, will perform at one of the end-of-summer “homecoming week” concerts.

“When it comes to George Clinton I can remember feeling, because I heard it a million times as a young person, ‘One Nation Under a Groove,’” de Blasio said during his daily press briefing held in The Bronx

“I remind you why that’s so pertinent today. But the line I always remember is, ‘Nothing can stop us now,’ he sang in a less than perfect pitch.

The mayor said the line represented New York City bouncing back from the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So that’s it, ‘Nothing Can Stop Us Now,’ isn’t that perfect for the occasion for the recovery, for New York City coming back?”

Clinton is slated to sing in Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium on Aug. 20 at a show beginning at 4 p.m., when he will be joined by Mobb Deep, DJ Hurricane, DJ Wiz, and EPMD, who will also appear at the Staten Island event featuring two members of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The Queens concert will follow three others as part of what the mayor has billed “homecoming week.” The Bronx show will be Aug. 16 followed by the Staten Island concert on Aug. 17 and the Brooklyn performance on Aug. 19. The outer borough events will be capped off by a large show on Aug. 21 in Central Park.

At Orchard Beach, KRS-One, Slick Rick and Remmy Ma will headline the 3 p.m. show, when 15 other artists will perform, according to the mayor’s office. On Staten Island, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah will perform alongside Kool Keith HeeSun Lee and other artists at Richmond County Bank Park, previously home to the Staten Island Yankees, de Blasio announced.

The third outer-borough stop in the hip-hop-heavy series of concerts ahead of the Great Lawn climax will feature Desiigner, singer of the 2016 hit “Panda,” and rapper Big Daddy Kane in Brooklyn Army Terminal. The concert, which will also feature Maino and Obasi Jackson, is schedule to begin at 4 p.m.

The free tickets for all four shows will be released to the public in batches at nyc.gov/homecomingweek starting on Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. They will also be released online on Aug. 3 at 7 a.m., Aug. 4 at 9 p.m., Aug. 5 at 7 a.m., Aug 6. at 10 a.m. and Aug. 7 at 9 p.m., officials said.
