A DRUG dealer who left a cop with a collapsed lung after stabbing him in a knife rampage while like a "caged animal fighting for life" has been found guilty.

Hampshire PC Russell Turner, 56, was knifed in a park in Portsmouth by Michael Enzanga, 20, while looking into reports of drug dealing.

Homeless Enzanga, who was sleeping in the park at the time, launched into the frenzy after a struggle broke out between the officers and the suspect.

PC Turner said the blows to his body seemed like "what I imagine someone like Mike Tyson banging and hitting me hard in the back".

Enzanga has today been found guilty of grievous bodily harm at Portsmouth Crown Court following the brutal attack on February 21.

He was also found guilty of possession of a knife, four charges of possessing crack cocaine and diamorphine with intent to supply the class A drugs on February 20 and 21, and a charge of possessing criminal property, namely a stash of money.

Judge Roger Hetherington told Enzanga that a pre-sentence report was required and that it would "consider how dangerous you are".

KNIFE FRENZY

During a trial, jurors heard he stabbed the officer "at least twice" with a 6ins blade as he acted like a "caged animal fighting for life".

The thug then fled towards a block of flats after the attack where he was spotted on CCTV carrying a knife.

He was Tasered by officers while PC Turner was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung.

But Enzanga managed to scale garden walls while the barbs from the Taser hung from his back before eventually being arrested as he hid in a back garden.

The jury heard a sweatshirt fell to the ground during the struggle and a carrier bag with 60 wraps of either crack cocaine of heroin were left at the park – with his DNA on both.

A mobile seized from Enzanga after his arrest had messages which are in line "with somebody who had been dealing drugs" and he also had nearly £1,000, jurors were told.

Cops also later recovered a silver kitchen knife.

Enzanga has previous convictions, which include possession of a blade and handling of class A drugs.

SPATE OF ATTACKS

It comes after a spate of violent attacks on British police officers while on duty.

PC Andrew Harper became the first police officer to be killed in the line of duty since PC Keith Palmer, 48, was stabbed to death in the Westminster terror attack in 2017 this month.

The 28-year-old was killed after being hit by a suspected getaway vehicle while responding to a burglary  in Berkshire.

He was due to go on honeymoon next week with his new wife, Lissie, 28, next week, just four weeks after they married.

Jed Foster, 20, has been charged with PC Harper's murder.

A week before the tragedy, PC Stuart Outten, 28, was stabbed in the head as he tried to stop a van in Leyton, East London but managed to Taser the suspects.

And earlier this month, PC Gareth Phillips, 42, suffered a head injury and broken pelvis after stopping a suspected stolen car in Birmingham.

While in Northern Ireland, officers were "lucky to be alive" after being lured to a bomb blast on the border.
