President Trump has Mar-a-Lago, President-elect Biden has Rehoboth Beach.

Joe Biden and incoming First Lady Jill Biden bought a $2.7 million home blocks from the ocean in the Delaware resort town in 2017. The couple had just signed an $8 million multi-book deal.

“Throughout our careers, Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach at home where we can bring the whole family. We feel very lucky that we’re now able to make that happen,” Biden said in a statement after purchasing the home.

In the two years that followed, the Bidens split their time between their home in the Delaware North Shores neighborhood of Rehoboth Beach, and Wilmington, a two-hour drive away.

Biden still made time for the home during his presidential run, using it as a getaway to host discussions with family before making big decisions, such as choosing a running mate.

The president-elect was frequently spotted by beachgoers and locals walking or taking bike rides in the cozy beach town during his time away from politics.

During their trip over the weekend, the first since being elected president, the incoming president and first lady managed to make time for a bike ride, followed closely behind by Secret Service.

As the two sped by reporters, the president-elect responded “yes” when asked if he was any closer to making a cabinet decision.

Rehoboth Mayor Stan Mills hopes that the bike rides will continue now that the Bidens have turned the town into the newest presidential retreat.

“We’re hopeful that, I call him the famously friendly Biden, will continue his strolls around town,” he said of his town’s most recognizable resident.

Most presidents have had their own personal getaway homes aside from Camp David, usually dubbed the “Summer White House” or “Winter White House,” depending on the season it was used most in.

Biden, however, will be the first to have a “Summer White House” in Delaware.

For President Trump, he had two. His “Winter White House” was his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, while his “Summer White House” was technically his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Biden is back in Wilmington on Monday, and it is unclear when he will return to his beach home.

When announcing that he would be taking the weekend, Biden transition team adviser Jen Psaki noted, “I think he’s earned, certainly, a couple of days off.”
