BRITISH food is rated worse than Germany, Romania and Poland in a guide for US tourists.

The travel website Far and Wide ranked Britain 12th out of 20 European regions for best cuisine.

It said: “Does this continue the stereotype that British food is bad? Yes it does. The fact is, not many people travel to the UK expecting a great meal — and there is always a bit of truth behind stereotypes.”

The website warned Yanks to only try traditional treats such as steak and kidney pie if “stuck in the English countryside with no other option”.

Italy and France came top of the ratings.
