Will this be the last series of Doc Martin?

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but season 10 will be the last ever series of the show.

The show has run for 15 years and 70 episodes but after the new series, it will be time to say goodbye.

Speaking about the decision to bring the show to an end, producer Philippa Braithwaite said: "When we launched the series in 2004 we could never have imagined how much our loyal viewers would take to the grumpy Doc like they have.

"The series has avid fans both in the UK and throughout the world and we are thrilled that Doc Martin has topped the ratings every time.

"However, after sixteen years we now feel that the time has come to say goodbye to Portwenn.  We will be making the tenth and final series in 2021 and we are very much looking forward to returning to Cornwall to film it.”

What happens on the last episode of Doc Martin season 9?

Tom Conti guest starred in the last episode as Bernard Newton, an eminent surgeon who is assessing Dr Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) in the final part of the General Medical Council scrutiny, monitoring his skills in assisted surgery.

Bernard Newton is leading the surgery, which puts Martin at ease given he was his tutor, colleague and old friend.

Wedding bells are ringing in Portwenn with the preparations for Morwenna (Jessica Ransom) and Al’s(Joe Absolom) wedding.

But some last minute hitches threaten to jeopardise their big day.

There’s an awkward meeting for PC Penhale (John Marquez) when his ex fiancé Janice Bone, (Robyn Addison) returns for the wedding.

She left him standing at the altar, and he now wonders if she’s back because she still has feelings for him.
