This Morning fans were left gobsmacked as a ‘spooky’ hologram of the late Whitney Houston appeared on the show today.

The new technology used to bring the Bodyguard star back to life was also used to resurrect rapper Tupac in 2012, but it wasn’t a huge hit with viewers today – who slammed the hologram on social media.

Hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford also looked on a bit bemused as the So Emotional singer quite literally came back to (digital) life to give us a rendition of The Greatest Love Of All.

As the performance ended, the social reaction from fans made it very clear that they weren’t so convinced that Whitney had been brought back to life.

‘[It’s] very unsettling,’ one viewer wrote. ‘And very sad.’

Another added: ‘I think I was expecting her to look more real.’

The presenting duo, however, had a more positive spin on the hologram’s appearance.

Eamonn told viewers that, in person, it felt like the I Will Always Love You hitmaker was ‘in the room’.

‘I understand the sensitivity [from] her big fans,’ director she told us.

‘There’s critics out there who don’t think that this technology should be done, but this technology is the future and it’s one of the reasons why I signed on.’

This Morning continues weekdays from 10am on ITV. An Evening With Whitney begins at City Hall in Sheffield on 25 February. For tickets and more information, visit the tour’s official website.
