Emmerdale has become one of the most popular soaps, thanks to its explosive storylines and array of interesting characters.

While there are many families over in soap land, few come close to the Dingles, who have found themselves at the centre of Emmerdale's dramatic plot lines over the years.

The family first burst onto our screens in 1994, and we have some many members of the Dingle clan come and go, all the while providing non-stop drama.

While iconic characters such as Marlon, Chas, and Charity are still enjoying life over in the Emmerdale village, there's many members of the Dingle family who have never returned to our screens.

Here we take a look at where some of Emmerdale's Dingle family are now…

Butch Dingle (Paul Loughran)

Butch Dingle was one of Emmerdale's most iconic characters, and a huge part of the Dingle family.

Actor Paul Loughran first appeared on-screen in 1994 as Butch, and became a staple to the ITV soaps during the six years that followed.

Butch was killed off in a village bus crash in 2000, leaving the rest of the Dingle family devastated.

He was buried next to his brother, who had died six years earlier, and his tombstone read: "Dead but still Dingles."

After leaving Emmerdale behind, actor Paul went on to appear in The Bill and Heartbeart, before landing the role of Darryl in Coronation Street in 2016.

However, his stint on the fellow ITV soap was short-lived, and his character hasn't been seen since September 2016.

Tricia Dingle (Sheree Murphy)

Tricia Dingle, portrayed by Sheree Murphy, met a grizzly end when she was killed by falling rubble during a disastrous New Year's Eve storm in 2003.

Tricia first burst onto our screens in 1998, and became a barmaid at the Woolpack. During her time on the soap she enjoyed various romances, before going on to marry Marlon Dingle.

Following her character's heartbreaking death, actress Sheree went on to take part in I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and also landed hosting roles on both This Morning and Loose Women.

She eventually returned to soap acting, starring in Aussie soap Neighbours from 2014 until 2018, and Hollyoaks between 2010 and 2011.

Sheree is now a presenter at Hits Radio UK.

Delilah Dingle (Hayley Tamaddon)

Delilah Dingle's time in the village was short-lived, but she definitely left a lasting impact. The character, portrayed by Hayley Tamaddon, appeared in around 200 episodes between 2005 and 2007.

Delilah was last seen fleeing the Yorkshire Dales, having stolen £20,000 from Eric Pollard in an evil scam.

Hayley Tamaddon has since gone on to star in Shameless, Waterloo Road, and Coronation Street, where she played a friend of Steve McDonald's.

The actress also competed on Dancing On Ice, going on to win series five.

Donna Windsor-Dingle (Verity Rushworth)

Donna Windsor-Dingle is the mother of April Windsor, who has gone on to become a popular star in the soap.

Actress Verity Rushworth appeared as Donna on multiple occasions between 1993 and 1997, before reprising her role again in both 1998 and 2009.

She returned once more in 2014, which marked the end of her time on the soap when Donna fell from a multi-storey car park while trying to protect daughter April and boyfriend Ross Barton.

Verity took over the role in 1993 from Sophie Jeffrey, and has since gone on to star in various theatre productions.

She has enjoyed roles in The Sound Of Music, Chicago and Breakfast at Tiffany's, and for around a year Verity played Lauren in the West End production of Kinky Boots.

Eli Dingle (Joseph Gilgun)

In July 2006, soap viewers were introduced to Marlon Dingle's brother Eli, who appeared in the village having been recently released from prison.

It's safe to say his family weren't pleased to see him, and after causing a mountain of trouble, he eventually left before he could get arrested.

Actor Joseph Gilgun has gone on to star in a number of high-profile titles, and now boasts an impressive acting career.

He's best known for his role as Woody in the film and spin-off series This Is England, and also played Rudy Wade in popular E4 title Misfits.

Joseph has gone on to star in Brassic, alongside Michelle Keegan, AMC series Preacher, The Last Witch Hunter and many more.

Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller)

Danny Miller portrayed Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale for over 13 years until eventually quitting the ITV soap in 2021.

His character left in heartbreaking scenes which aired while Danny was taking part in I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

The actor reportedly decided to leave soap land behind in the hope of finding new career opportunities, and in order to spend more time with his family following the birth of his first child.

Danny has since been crowned winner of this year's I'm A Celeb, and it looks like he could be in for some huge opportunities soon.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights on ITV.
