Real Housewives of Orange County star Kelly Dodd made headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2020 and 2021, sparking rumors that she would be fired from the Bravo franchise. Kelly, who married Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal in October 2020, per People, has drawn lots of criticism for her opinions on COVID-19. Not only did she have a wedding in the middle of the pandemic, but she also referred to the virus as “God thinning out the herd,” as Entertainment Tonight reported.

Kelly also refused to apologize for wearing a “Drunk Wives Matter” hat despite the fact that it trivialized the Black Lives Matter movement, as People reported. She then claimed to be Black at the RHOC season reunion after a 23andMe test allegedly revealed a percentage of Black DNA, per E! Online. The reality star also called host Andy Cohen “anti-American” for disliking for president Donald Trump.

On an Instagram Live, Kelly then threatened to quit RHOC if castmate Braunwyn Windham-Burke returned for season 16. Dodd previously clashed with Braunwyn on the show over politics, with Kelly claiming Braunwyn called her racist and homophobic, as People reported. Cohen seemed to agree with fans’ reactions to all the drama, as he replied to a call for RHOC to be cancelled on Twitter: “I think you mean reBOOT.”

Kelly Dodd spoke up after Vicki Gunvalson called her a 'living nightmare'

Kelly Dodd herself seemed to think her time was up as recently as Jan. 29, 2021. On Instagram, a fan commented on the reality star’s picture, “They better not fire you,” adding that “people are fed up with the cancel culture.” Kelly replied to the comment, writing that it was “likely to happen.”

Fellow RHOC castmate Vicki Gunvalson had also told Champion Daly that Kelly was “a living nightmare who continues to make reckless comments with no regard for the impact her words may have.” Vicki fueled the speculation about her departure, stating, “While I continue to be surprised Bravo would continue to endorse her behavior — especially given all of the fan pushback on social media regarding the horrendous things she’s said — time will tell if she will remain on the show or not.”

Finally, Kelly shot back at Vicki in a tweet denying the rumors, “No I am not fired !!! Contacts haven’t come out yet ! Vicki stop being a hater ..” The response divided fans of the franchise, with one Twitter user replying, “You should be,” and referred to her claims of Black ancestry as “offensive.” Of course, only time will tell when it comes to Kelly’s true fate with the franchise.
