The sixth season of Vikings brought the epic drama to a cataclysmic close last December, but fans are still finding more to love about the popular historical series. Some viewers have recently discovered that some scenes were left out of the show’s original release on the History Channel, and they may need to return to the series on Amazon Prime Video to get the full story.

An unearthed sequence from the fifth season of Vikings has revealed a fierce clash between Ivar the Boneless (played by Alex Høgh Andersen) and Floki Vilgerðarson (Gustaf Skarsgård).

The scene in question sparked a rather complicated debate around which scenes were left on the cutting room floor for the show’s original US release.

In the first episode of season five, ‘The Fisher King’, Floki reminds the young warrior of his relation to Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel).

He tells Ivar: “Your real father was Ragnar Lothbrok, the most famous man in the world.”

“Don’t you ever forget that, Ivar. Or the gods will punish you.”

Throughout the fourth season of the series, Ivar sees Floki as something of a surrogate father during Ragnar’s long absences.

This brief yet impactful exchange helped re-establish Ivar’s feelings of abandonment which led to a number of conflicts in Vikings’ final two seasons.

Following Ragnar’s death at the hands of King Aelle (Ivan Kaye), Ivar looked to Floki for guidance while he continued to struggle with his crippled body.

Sadly, the young son of Ragnar felt even more rejected when the boatbuilder set sail from Kattegat in search of Asgard.

Floki’s final words to Ivar clearly left a lasting impression as he evolved into one of history’s most formidable warriors, eventually becoming the King of Kattegat.

Unfortunately, audiences watching the series as it aired on the History Channel in the US weren’t provided this much needed context.

The unaired clip’s released on YouTube prompted some confused reactions from fans who had already seen Ivar and Floki’s exchange in other countries.

“I have seen every one of these scenes in the episode,” commented one fan, adding a snoozing emoji.

To which another replied: “Maybe you… but many people don’t, including me. These scenes are not in all versions.”

Originally airing weekly episodes on History in the US, certain scenes have clearly been removed to allow for commercial breaks.

Episodes overrunning no longer becomes an issue upon their later release on streaming services like Amazon Prime, so some scenes are added back in.

For example, another viewer clarified: “Those scenes have not been deleted on Sky Germany.”

The video also included another disturbing sequence in which Ivar prepares to enact a human sacrifice of two young boys.

Although the series has since come to an end, fans will be glad of another excuse to go back to some of their favourite episodes now they know not every scene made it into the original broadcast.

Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
