LOVE Island star Tasha Ghouri, 24, has opened up on the horrific trolling she received after leaving Love Island.

The star has been very open about her hearing aid after becoming the first deaf contestant on the hit ITV2 show, coining it her “superpower.”

Despite her honesty and returning to a lot of positive comments, Tasha admits there was a lot of ableism, following her return to the UK.

In a candid piece written by the star, Tasha discusses the “shocking” trolling she got, as people said they’d like to “rip [her] hearing aid out.”

Tasha got an implant when she was five-years-old and allows her to receive and process sounds and speech.

She said to Glamour: “People were taking the mick out of my voice. It was so shocking to me as I'd never experienced overt ableism before entering the villa.

“I don't mind people having opinions about me, but it's never OK to use someone's superpower against them because that quickly turns into ableism.”

Tasha said she’d tried to “step away” from conversations about ableism, but added: “I know I need to be the voice for my community.

“Some of the ableist responses to my Love Island journey showed me that there's still a long way to go in changing people's perceptions of disability.”

The dancer’s chat comes as Barbie launched a doll with a behind-the-ear hearing aid.

Tasha continued: “The fact that Barbie's releasing this new doll is a positive step, but there's still so much for us to fight for.

“I want all young kids to know that having a superpower shouldn't stop you from achieving your dreams. If anything, it makes you special and unique.”
