Everyone’s favorite, The Young and the Restless bad girl Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), will be off television screens for a while. The character is tending to her mother, Anita Lawson (Catherine Bach), as she recovers from surgery. The reason for Chelsea’s absence is due to Egan’s pregnancy. The actor is currently on maternity leave and is due to give birth any day now. Like any mom-to-be, Egan is nervous thinking about childbirth.

Egan and her husband, Matt Katrosar, are awaiting the arrival of their son, who’s due later this month. This is the first child for the couple, who celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in July. Egan has been very open about the difficult journey towards motherhood, which included IVF treatments.
In April, the actor shared the good news that she was finally pregnant. This has been an exciting time for Egan, yet she’s a bit nervous as the big day draws near. Recently, the actor tweeted how she hopes childbirth goes smoother for her than for her Young and the Restless character.
Chelsea Lawson’s ‘Young and the Restless’ births
Chelsea has given birth to two children during her 10 years on the show. As with any storyline on soap operas, Chelsea’s labor and delivery were dramatic. Chelsea was rescued by Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) during her first pregnancy after falling through a frozen lake. Adam took Chelsea to a nearby cabin, where he helped deliver her son Johnny, who Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) adopted.
With Chelsea’s second pregnancy, she conned Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) into believing he was the dad when Adam was actually the father. Chelsea’s plan hits a snag when she goes into labor early. Unable to make it to the hospital in time, Dylan delivers Chelsea’s son Connor in their apartment.
What’s in store for Chelsea’s return?
As reported by She Knows, Egan’s last airdate was July 9th. Prior to going on maternity leave, Egan’s character Chelsea was in the midst of a huge storyline. Chelsea was arrested after confessing to poisoning Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) and framing Adam for the crime. She then faked a breakdown to avoid prison time. Although Chelsea maintained she was fine, it was obvious she wasn’t.
When Chelsea does return her relationship with Adam will continue to be a central focus. Chelsea hasn’t forgotten the heartache Adam put her through due to his unresolved feelings for Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). The fashion designer may not be done with her plot for revenge.
In the meantime, Egan is enjoying her maternity leave. Recently she was thrown a baby shower by her castmates, and she also participated in a beachside maternity shoot. With her baby boy coming soon, let’s hope Egan has a safe and smooth delivery.
