The Yorkshire Vet: Julian Norton attempts to treat an alpaca

After the success of the first 15 series, Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet returned for another insight into the tireless work of saving animals’ lives.

The show follows Peter Wright, Julian Norton, Matthew Jackson-Smith and Shona Searson as they try to help as many animals as possible, from pets to wild animals.

Since the start of the show Peter Wright has become a fan favourite, but he recently admitted that the fame from the show has been “difficult to comprehend”.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Peter revealed: “I have got to say that it is because of our fans.

“We have an extremely loyal fanbase that keeps asking for more and more of The Yorkshire vet and I find it difficult to comprehend that we are still going after eight years.

“But again as I say it is down to our fanbase and as long as our fans want it and the viewing figures remain so robust then the channel will want us as well.”

When the show first returned earlier this month, fans were delighted to see Peter and the other vets back on their screens.

Taking to Twitter to applaud their return, user @FarmersWills expressed: “THE YORKSHIRE VET IS BACK! Oh, how I have missed Peter and the team!”

@EmpireStrats penned: “Nothing beats a cosy night in front of the first and watching Peter Wright work his magic saving all these animals’ lives.”

Linda Cyries commented: “The work that these vets do on a daily basis blows my mind! Nerves of steel!”

Tracy Cook said: “I love The Yorkshire Vet so much! You can see how much Peter and the gang love their job!”

@AllyPally tweeted: “The Yorkshire Vet will always be my comfort show! The care these animals receive is amazing and I love Peter Wright.”

@NolookME: “Just incredible. These vets are put under so much pressure all the time and yet they do an amazing job!” (sic)

During Tuesday’s episode, Peter treated pet sheep with an unpleasant case of fly strike, resulting in an abundance of maggots living within its ear.

Meanwhile, the Huddersfield team performed a complicated spinal surgery on a French bulldog, and Julian Norton was called out to meet a pet pig called Pumba that had hay netting tangled around its teeth.

Last year, Julian touched on the continuing success of the show and how excited he was that they were returning for a 16th season.

In a statement, he said: “The Yorkshire Vet has become a staple viewing for many people since 2015 and reaching series 15 — and still going strong — feels like quite a landmark moment.”

The Yorkshire Vet airs Tuesdays from 8pm on Channel 5.
