The Masked Singer bosses were forced to make some changes to Octopus' costume over injury fears.

Octopus makes their first appearance on ITV's surreal new singing show on Sunday night – but major changes were made for the following week.

Their colourful costume, which includes long tentacles with suckers, was the heaviest outfit in the competition at a staggering 20 kilos.

This made it difficult for the celebrity to stand up for long periods, so bosses had to rethink the costume for their second performance.

Speaking at the press screening, Jonathan Ross inadvertently let slip a major clue about Octopus' identity while making a joke.

On the weight of the costume being too much, Jonathan joked: "And then we had to pay for one of HER hips to be replaced."

Jonathan has confirmed that Octopus is female, but does this also indicate they are elderly?

The chat show host explained that Octopus was given a "whirly platform" that held the weight of the costume while enabling them to move with their legs.

Presenter Joel Dommett admitted he felt sorry for Octopus, who had quite a tough time expressing their emotions with the heavy tentacles.

On who he felt sympathy for, Joel said: "Especially the Octcopus. They had one of the heaviest in the competition. Apparently it weighed like 20 kilos or something.

"On the first episode we kind of had to have a break now and then because it was so heavy for them. So the next time they were on they made a sort of rig for them and they were skating around."

Davina McCall confessed it was hard to see emotion from some of the bulkier costumes at the start but they grew to understand signs just from their feet.

She explained: "I think when you’re wearing a costume where you can barely see at all or express yourself in any way its about how much of a performance you can still give when you're an Octopus and you can’t do anything."

Davina also admitted that some of her friends were "disappointed" that she did not recognise them before the unmasking.

The former Big Brother host, who hasn't even told her kids who performed in front of her, said: "It gets to the point where we don't want to know, we want to guess.

"If somebody came up to me and said, 'Do you want me to tell you who it is,' I'd say, 'No don't tell me I'm enjoying this'."
