The Madame Blanc Mysteries is back on Channel 5 and it sees Jean (played by Sally Lindsay) investigate the murder of the chief of police’s wife. The beautiful French village of Sainte Victoire is decked out for Christmas but the residents are not ready to celebrate yet. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about who is joining the cast.

Who is in The Madame Blanc Mysteries Christmas special?

Dom Hayfield – Steve Edge

Jean’s right-hand man Dom is back and he is played by Steve Edge.

Steve is a 50-year-old actor, writer and comedian known for his roles in Starlings, Phoenix Nights and Benidorm.

He said of the Christmas special: “Once you have Robin Askwith dressed as Santa Claus and Sue Vincent dressed as a Christmas cracker, what more do you need?

“To have a Christmas special is an accolade and there’s a surprising dramatic arc in the episode, which opens the new series, that changes the course of the whole second series.”

Judith Lloyd-James – Sue Holderness

Judith is played by Sue Holderness, a 73-year-old English stage and screen actress.

She is known for her roles in Doctors, Still Open All Hours and EastEnders.

Jeremy Lloyd-James – Robin Askwith

Jeremy is played by Robin Askwith, a 72-year-old actor and singer who is best known for Britannia Hospital and Confessions.

His other TV credits include Beryl’s Lot, Bottle Boys and Coronation Street.

Caron – Alex Gaumond

Caron is the detective in the Christmas special and he is played by Alex Gaumond.

The 44-year-old Canadian actor is also a singer and filmmaker, known for his West End roles.

He is known for Miss Saigon and The Hustle.

Speaking of his biggest challenge this series, he said: “The Christmas special is like my Everest because of what happens to Caron, but it’s also a gift.

“As an actor, you always hope the writers will develop a storyline for your character that’s meaty and juicy, and I was very blessed that Sally and Sue did that for me in series two.

“Sometimes the type of storyline I have comes much later in a series for a character, so I was very fortunate they decided to give Caron some meaty problems in the Christmas special, which is the start of series two.”

Gloria Beauchamp – Sue Vincent

The show’s co-writer Sue Vincent plays Gloria in the series and she is a 54-year-old actress and writer.

She is also known for her roles in Coronation Street, Mount Pleasant and Shameless.

The star said of the Christmas special: “When I was writing I thought it would be funny to make Gloria Christmas obsessive, so I wrote in the script she’d be dressed as a Christmas cracker. I thought it would be hilarious.”

Gendarme Richard – Jacqueline Berces

Gendarme is played by Jacqueline Berces, a film, stage and musical theatre actress.

She splits her time between London and Paris and her credits include The Legend and Genius.

Barbara – Olivia Caffrey

Barbara is played by Olivia Caffrey, who is known for her roles in Long Time Dead, Coupling and Playing the Field.

Celine Connor – Margeaux Lampley

Celine is played by Margeaux Lampley, an actress and singer who has starred in Emily in Paris, Crazy Women and The New Look.

Niall Connor – Aonghus Weber

Niall is played by Aonghus Weber, an Irish actor who has starred in The Running Mate and Headrush.

Charlie Brodeur – Sanchia McCormack

Charlie is played by Sanchia McCormack, who has starred in Doctor Who, Wallander and Broadchurch.

Simone Brodeur – Djinda Kane

Simone is played by Djinda Kane, an actress known for Uncorked, Marseille and In Tandem.

Uncle Patrick – Tony Robinson

Dom’s Uncle Patrick is coming to stay for Christmas and he is up to no good.

He is a reformed thief, but he is tempted back to his old ways in Sainte Victoire.

He is played by Tony Robinson, an actor and presenter known for hosting Time Team.

The 76-year-old also played Baldrick in the BBC series Blackadder.

Archie – Alfie Middlemiss

Archie is played by Alfie Middlemiss, known for playing Harry Murray in Emmerdale.

Inspector Gauthier – Elsa Mollien

Inspector Gauthier is played by Elsa Mollien, a 40-year-old French actress.

She has previously starred in Crossing Lines, Jane Eyre and London Has Fallen.

Lloyd – Philippe Jacq

Lloyd is played by Philippe Jacq, a 59-year-old actor known for Daimonion and Savage Love.

Viewers may also recognise him from The Head and El Presidente.

Sara Caron – Désirée Giorgetti

Sara Caron is played by Désirée Giorgetti, an actress and singer from Milan.

She is known for House of Evil and The Blind King.

Serena – Sèverine Howell-Meri

Serena is played by Sèverine Howell-Meri, an actress, singer and photographer.

Viewers may recognise her from The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, Hanna and Doctors.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries Christmas special airs on December 22 on Channel 5 at 9pm
