Breaking up is hard to do, especially when you’re doing it on national television. Katie Thurston had one of the toughest breakups of the season on Monday’s episode of The Bachelorette. Now, one of the contestants who she sent home is revealing if he would consider getting back together with her.

A tough breakup on ‘The Bachelorette’

Last night, Thurston sent fan favorite Andrew Spencer home.

“You are such an amazing man,” she said to him. “And you give 100 percent to everything that you are passionate about, and that’s what you deserve. And that’s not something I could give you. I could not look at your mom or your sister in the eye and tell them what they would want to hear, because they know what you deserve. I know what you deserve.”

The next day, Spencer visited Thurston for a proper goodbye and told her that he was still proud of her. Thurston ended up asking Spencer to rejoin the competition but he declined.

“I wanted to say yes,” he told the cameras of his decision to leave. “I’d love nothing more than to be with her. She f—— sprinted down the stairs, and I said no. But I want my future wife to choose me and, you know, I wasn’t chosen. So I had to say no. I don’t want to go through this with her again. I don’t want to be standing at a rose ceremony, waiting for her to not choose me.”

Where do Katie and Andrew stand now?

Though the two did end their relationship with mutual respect, there are still some things that need to be cleared up.

“The way we kind of left, it was just kind of a bunch of questions in the air,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “There was a lot of love there. I’ve seen the show and it’s kind of tough [to watch]. At this day, at this time, I just think we need to talk. If anything, I would love to just sit down and talk with her one day, just kind of hang out and just see where her head’s at.”

Is Andrew open to dating Katie again after ‘The Bachelorette’?

Spencer did ultimately decide to leave the show, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to dating Thurston again if things don’t work out with her final rose winner.

“Obviously the first breakup was tough and then going back in and doing that thing, that was also really tough,” Spencer shared. “I just let her know like, ‘Hey, I don’t wanna do this Bachelor process anymore. So if you want to possibly continue this outside of that, I would definitely be open to it. That’s what I meant when I wrote that on the card.”

Spencer’s feelings for Thurston were still there when he left the show, but he decided not to stay to protect himself.

“For a good couple weeks, I debated whether I made the right decision or not. But ultimately, it came down to [the fact that] she already told me she had stronger connections with the other guys,” he said. “For me to jump back in knowing I’m already behind, it was just something I didn’t want to put my heart through again.”
