Last week’s The Apprentice saw the dreaded interviews week, which ultimately led to Dani Donovan, Megan Hornby, and Victoria Goulbourne’s dismissal from the series after Alan Sugar decided not to bring them into the final two. Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Dani addressed the interview with Karren Brady on the BBC series which left her in tears.

When asked whether the harsh feedback during the interviews made her question her business idea, Dani replied: “That’s an interesting question because I feel like it gave me quite a lot of confidence.

“I actually had an interview with Karren, and obviously, I know my business plan wasn’t amazing.

“We had to put them together so quickly before we went into the show.

“It’s not something I had ages and ages to prepare. And she [Karren] actually said to me, ‘Of all the people, you’ve worked so hard to be here, why did you not put more kind of effort into it?’

And I said to her, ‘I never expected to get to the stage,’ and she said, ‘Why don’t you have more faith in yourself?’

“But I was just like… ‘I don’t know!’ but I think that was quite nice to hear, that she recognised that I’d worked really hard to be there.”

Talking about why she became tearful during the exchange, she added: “That’s the one that really got me in the end.

“It’s because I think throughout the process, you really do want to impress her and obviously, you’re there for a long time – 12 weeks of your life.

“You slowly do just kind of break away, break away, break away.

“And it’s not until you get that close that you realise what’s in front of you.

“So I think it is very overwhelming, but I think with the other interviewers, I did manage to just kind of shrug off the criticism.

“I didn’t really try and argue back too much, I appreciate being in front of such worthy business people and I think it was an amazing opportunity to have them comment on my business and to go through it and give me the advice that they did.”

Reflecting on the scary moments from her interview experience, she commented: “Do you know what? Linda [Plant] is scary.

“So I definitely found her the most intimidating. However, I think you just have to shrug it off.

“I think I came out of the interview with Linda and I was sort of laughing because I just thought it was so bad it was laughable, and if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry in those situations.”

Describing how “tough” Linda was during the episode, she admitted Lord Sugar’s adviser was harder on her than he was.

“Yeah, I think it’s because she really did give us a grilling and that’s what she’s there to do.

“So I mean Lord Sugar was tough, but I think he was very, very fair.

“And when you got to the boardroom he sort of knew everything that had gone on.

“And obviously he’s addressing everyone, whereas Linda at that time, she was just addressing me and is like firing away and you’re just taking the bullet, basically.”

The Apprentice final airs on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
