Joe Lycett is the bookies' favourite to replace Matt Lucas on the Great British Bake Off after the comedian announced his exit.

Matt, 48, announced on Tuesday (December 6) that he would not be hosting the next series of the Channel 4 baking show as he can no longer juggle presenting the competition alongside his other projects.

Ladbrokes have since shared the hot favourites who could replace Matt and co-present alongside Noel Fielding.

Fellow comedian Joe, 34, is the favourite to take over as host, with odds of 7/2, while former Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has odds of 4/1, with Chicken Shop Date Amelia Dimoldenberg also in the running at odds of 5/1.

Strictly stars Ellie Taylor (6/1), Jayde Adams (7/1) and Judi Love (8/1) are also possible options for hosts, while Tom Allen is at odds of 10/1.

Alex Apati from Ladbrokes said: "Matt Lucas was the cherry on the Bake Off cake, and it's certainly going to take a big personality to replace him.

"The early odds suggest that honour could be heading in Joe Lycett's direction, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Channel 4 chiefs make a move for Amelia Dimoldenberg."

It comes after Matt surprised fans on Twitter as he admitted he had to prioritise his Fantasy Football League show and would be saying goodbye to Bake Off ahead of the next series.

He wrote: "Farewell Bake Off! It's been a delicious experience, and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers.

"But it's become clear to me that I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects. So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else.

"I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent.

He added: "I wish whoever takes over the very best, and I can't wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"
