Maybe one day I’ll stop shouting “Mike for Bachelor!” at the top of my lungs, but today is not that day! The hurt of the next Bachelor announcement is still too fresh, and some E! sources keep piling on the pain!

Last night, ABC and Chris Harrison announced that Peter Weber is the next Bachelor, which means Mike Johnson is not. Now, Mike was definitely a frontrunner in this race and a fan favorite, so people are extremely upset right now and asking, “Why, ABC? Whyyyyyyy????”

Thanks to an E! source, we now have a little bit more info about why ABC went with Peter, but it if you’re a Mike fan, it will probably just upset you. Here’s what they said: “Peter has always been their guy. He’s older, he as a career and he has a great backstory. He can definitely carry a show.”

Let’s get one thing straight: Peter is a solid dude who f*cked in a windmill four times. Go him! And while he does have a job, is “older,” and has a good backstory, if that’s what they’re looking for, they easily could’ve went with Mike, who is actually four years older than 27-year-old Peter, has a solid career (portfolio manager), and has a great backstory.

Mike didn’t grow up around the corner from the Bachelor Mansion like Peter did and is actually from San Antonio, Texas. He’s an Air Force veteran, has been to 30 countries, and is interested in learning new languages. During Hannah Brown’s season, he opened up about his past relationships and even shared how his ex-finacée had a miscarriage and how he thought it was his fault.

So, if that’s the reason why Pilot Pete was chosen, it’s pretty weak, TBH, especially considering the Bachelor franchise is extremely lacking in diversity and representation and ABC had the opportunity to cast its first black Bachelor. All that said, the fact that ABC chose to give Peter the chance to find love was understandably met with a lot of backlash.

If you’re wondering what Mike thinks about all this, during the Men Tell All taping last season, he told E!, “I think Peter would be a great choice for Bachelor. I mean, the guy is pretty good looking, he speaks well, he’s 27 so I feel that he has some experience underneath his belt.”

The next season of The Bachelor premieres on January 6, 2020.
