AMANDA Owen has revealed her teenage son Miles' heartbreak over the shock death of one of his loved farm animals.

The Our Yorkshire Farm star is kept busy with her brood of nine children and a catalogue of animals to take care of.

Amanda, 46, explained in her book, Adventures Of The Yorkshire Shepherdess, how each of her children have a role to play on the farm, often resulting in a close bond with the animals.

In one chapter, Amanda talks about her 15-year-old son Miles whose responsibilities have including caring for the farm's hens and his own flock of sheep.

Describing him as someone who "doesn't like school", she wrote: "He’s a real ladies’ man. With his wide brown eyes peeping out under his foppish fringe, he is bound to charm.

"He loves animals, nature programmes and the countryside."

“Every year we replenish our ageing flock of hens with end-of-lay hens destined for processing," the shepherdess explained.

"Miles takes them under his wing, caring for them in the barn until they become acclimatised to the weather at Ravenseat and can become free-range."

Amanda, who heads up the farm with husband Clive, went on to proudly detail how well her son does his job.

She told readers: "He also has his his own flock of sheep, a dozen Texdales (Texel/Swaledale crosses).

"He lambs his little flock himself. Everything is timed carefully to make sure that his sheep’s due dates coincide with the Easter school holidays."

But she then sadly recalled: "He gets to see it all, and he was heartbroken when one day he went outside to feed his sheep and found one had escaped and got into the feedstore, overindulged, become bloated and died.

"It’s entirely his flock and he makes decisions about who he keeps and who he sells with just a hint of guidance from Clive.

"He is quiet, sensitive and knowledgeable and lives for the day when he can farm full-time."

The family have hit the limelight as their daily life is depicted on the popular Channel 5 show.

But Amanda was recently forced to hit back at trolls after she was accused of "selling out" after posting paid adverts on her social media.

The telly star ruffled a few feathers after promoting a dog food brand on her Instagram account earlier this month.

Amanda encouraged fans to look into buying their four-legged friend's some protein strips from Crave in a sponsored advert on her grid – which left many unimpressed.

One angry fan wrote: "Nooo don’t sell out to these companies keep it real!", while another commented: "Sad to see that you have started to endorse products Amanda."

In the deleted post their family pooch Midge could be seen enjoying some tasty treats next to Amanda and her son Miles.

But since then the shepherd has clapped back at the comments, explaining that any money she receives goes towards looking after her nine children.

Our Yorkshire Farm airs on Channel 5.
